Tapes
At Lost Sounds we welcome damaged:
• Open reel tapes (reel to reel)
• cassettes
• 8 track cartridges
• Dictaphone cassettes
Common problems with tapes are:
• stretched
• broken
• tangled
• old splices have perished
• 8 tracks tapes have seized
• cassettes tapes have seized
Other problems with tape occur when the magnetic oxide separates from the plastic backing tape. Some tapes produced in the 1970’s are particularly prone to this happening. Tapes that react in this way need to be slowly “baked” at low temperature. This process reactivates adhesion and allows the tape to be played for a limited period of time, usually enough time for the recording to be transferred. This is a service we offer following our assessment of your tape.
Another problem we have encountered in recent years is mould growing on tapes. This is a potentially serious problem and one that could spread to other treasured recordings. We will willingly assess your tape and advise you.
At Lost Sounds we welcome any of the above damaged tapes and endeavour to repair and transfer your recordings.
Records
Records of any material or type are prone to damage, usually the noise generated from scratches and marks can be electronically removed. However it maybe your record has more serious damage such as a piece missing from the outer edge, or in one case a customer’s 45rpm recording of steam trains was completely split in half!
Don’t despair! Send your damaged material to us. We will be pleased to assess your record and take time over the restoration of your treasured recording.
We are always pleased to gift wrap your CD and send to a different address. A CD of a special day makes a thoughtful gift for a special anniversary or birthday.
